Arrival - Enter Into The Alien Shell Scene.It took a day and a half to rehearse and shoot. We recorded the voice over first and used that as a guide track for the choreography.
After the first day of rehearsal the timings were worked out for the extras and the lighting changes. Then we ran it until we got it right.
It started to synchronise around about the tenth take. Montanarini explains that T he Arrival was inspired by a documentary he was working on called All About Mothers , and a photograph of a young woman sitting in a cafe by Alexander Nesterov.
All About Mothers explored the relationship between mothers and their children as they discovered they were pregnant, which is perhaps why the story feels so authentic.
The photographic inspiration was purely visual in that it moved Montanarini to imagine what the young woman was thinking at the time the photograph was taken.
After the subject of the film was decided, Montanarini invited a group of female artists called The Sexy Lamp Society to discuss their thoughts and views on having a baby.
From these conversations he devised the script with Zen Design Studios. Montanarini is currently developing a few features, a documentary and working on some more short films.

Big disappointment considering the nominations, which makes it one of the most overrated movies of Their ships look stupid, the aliens themselves look stupider, and there's generally a lack of awe at this event.
Only Jeremy Renner shows any signs of life, everyone else is sleepwalking including Amy Adams who is blander than Top 40 radio. She's a highly skilled linguist recruited by the military to communicate with these aliens, but none of her studying makes any difference as her only breakthroughs occur through memory flashes interacting with her daughter.
Naturally the military gets trigger-happy solely in order to inject some form of tension which is utterly predictable. There's a fairly nifty revelation at the very end, but it's relied upon far too heavily to have a Shyamalan effect and cannot salvage the dreary experience until then.
I enjoy heady sci-fi like Ex Machina and Interstellar as recent examples, but Arrival comes up well short with the only truly clever aspects being the aliens' writing method and the title.

Contemplative is the word for this thinking man's alien invasion flick. Our eyes, ears and mind, Banks is a linguist emotionally scarred by a tragedy.
She doesn't think linearly and neither does the film. Far from straight-forward, the film mindbends and timebends with achingly gorgeous photography that frames the locations as much as the characters.
This is a key point. Like A Space Odyssey and Interstellar before it, Arrival wraps you up in an atmospheric spectacle while leaving a lightyear's worth of room for interpretation.
The end result is both quantitative and qualitative, though director Denis Villenueve had some obvious influences.
Terrence Malick never made a straight sci-fi flick but, if he did, it might look a lot like this. Villenueve's work has always been bleak and gripping but his latest definitely resembles Malick's The Tree of Life more than Prisoners or Sicario.
Like those last two searing dramas, it still concentrates on troubled characters and maintains a funereal tone but the canvas is more expansive and less conclusive.
For some audiences, it will make them say 'Huh? Regardless of where the coin falls, Amy Adams grounds the drama quotient for all viewers with a deeply emotional performance.
Ever since her very deserving Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for Junebug in , this artist has made bold affecting choices.
That she would do this and the very different Nocturnal Animals within the same short window, both daring but singularly amazing turns, seems improbable if not downright impossible.
Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker turn in solid supporting performances without which she couldn't fully develop her character, but make no mistake about it: Second to Villeneuve, this is her show.

Zane returns home to find his attic devoid of equipment. He figures out the most feasible way to widely broadcast the tape is to go to a nearby large satellite uplink and beam a signal directly to a hacked news satellite, overriding it and broadcasting his tape worldwide.
Wondering how they were found so quickly, Zane briefly suspects Char of being an alien, until they are both attacked by one of Phil's agents. Zane leaves the tape with Kiki and instructs him to transmit it when he gives the order.
He and Char then sneak over to the telescope's base and barricade themselves in the control room. Zane makes the necessary adjustments and tells Kiki to activate the tape, but Kiki reveals himself to be an alien agent and he opens the door to allow Phil inside, who confiscates the tape.
Phil and his agents ram down the door to the satellite control room with a van, but Zane freezes them with liquid nitrogen vapors.
As he works to free the tape stuck in Phil's frozen jacket, one of the agents drops a sphere which starts to form another, larger, singularity in the room.
Phil begins to defrost, and tries to grab Zane's arm, but Zane smashes off Phil's arm with a fire axe. Zane and Char escape through the radio telescope station's access shaft, exiting safely onto the collapsed dish before the device implodes most of the telescope dish's base.
Below them they see Kiki; before he flees, Zane tells him to tell the aliens that he will soon broadcast this tape. In the film's epilogue, Zane's conversation with Phil is broadcast across the globe.
Prior to the film's release, the working title was Shockwave. Filming took place primarily in Mexico, with additional scenes filmed at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory.
