In der Umgebung um Assam wurde damals angeblich ein absolut schwarzer Tiger geschossen immer wieder das gleiche Muster , der nicht den kleinsten Ansatz von Steifen zeigte.
Alleine dieser Umstand wäre eine Sensation für sich auch bei einem Panther wäre es immer noch eine Sensation.
Allgemein tendieren eher die weiter südlich lebenden Tiger zur dunkleren Fellfärbung, wie man auch unter der Rubrik Anatomie nachvollziehen kann.
So hat der Sumatratiger die dunkelste Fellfärbung unter allen noch lebenden Tigerunterarten. Die meisten Berichte stammen deswegen aus südlichen Verbreitungsgebieten.
Vom Amurtiger ist nicht ein Fall berichtet der mir bekannt ist, bei dem von einem Schwarzling die Rede ist.
In den fünfziger Jahren des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts wurden aus der Umgebung der chinesischen Stadt Dongning zahlreiche Sichtungen von schwarzen Tigern getätigt - laut Berichten.
Es wird ferner auch direkt von schwarzen Tigern gesprochen. Es existiert des Weiteren nicht ein einziger "echter" Photobeweis für einen solchen Tiger.
Alle von Jägern den Zoologen "angebotenen" schwarzen Tiger stellten sich als Fälschungen heraus. Beispielsweise wurden geschossene normalfarbene Tiger in der Blutlache liegen gelassen, damit das Fell nachdunkelt.
Bei ähnlichen Situationen nach dem Beuteriss durch einen Tiger, der danach mit Blut beschmiert war, wurden normalfarbene Tiger für schwarze Tiger gehalten.
Andere Sichtung sind wohl schlicht und einfach Fehlidentifikationen aus dem Zwielicht des Dschungels oder schlicht und einfach Jägerlatein.
Folgende Photographien sind Montagen oder nicht natürlich entstanden. Es handelt sich somit nicht um authentische Bilder.
Der hier zu sehende Tiger hat den Namen "Sultan". In der Serie "Beastmaster" trat er jedoch nicht als schwarzer Tiger, sondern als Panther aus.
Warum die Macher keinen echten Panther nahmen und stattdessen einen normalfarbenen Tiger mit schwarzer Farbe anmalten, bleibt ihr Geheimnis.

Die Besonderheit bei ihrem Fell konnte man auch bei diesem Tiger erkennen. Bei einem bestimmten Winkel des Einfalllichts kann man auch bei Panthern noch die Rosetten des normal gefärbten Tieres erkennen.
Durch die bereits eingesetzte Verwesung war es nicht möglich das Fell zu retten. Dieser Bericht ist aber weit mehr als eine mündliche Überlieferung von einigen wenigen.
Bei Chittagong war ein britischer Truppenstützpunkt. Laut den alten Dokumenten wurden in den Wochen vor diesem Vorfall zahlreiche Tigersichtungen gemeldet, die einstimmig von einem schwarzen Tiger sprachen.
Auch in den behördlichen Dokumentationen auch wenn sie dürftig sind finden sich bei Polizei zahlreiche Meldung eben selber Art. Jedoch wird in diesem Bericht auch über die Gründe für diese Fellfärbung spekuliert, die so nicht haltbar sind.
