But in the end, there are quite a few things, that don't quite work in it's favor. Especially the things the female lead goes through in a short amount of time, are very improbable, not to mention her emotional journey, which is just a bit too rushed.
Still lovable, but with an ending, that though planted, feels a bit off in a wrong way. Did You Know? Trivia Jodie Whittaker is the only person in the film not to speak with an Irish accent.
Quotes Voice of The Reaper : The ocean, huh? Goofs Despite being set in Dublin, an ad for a UK store which does not trade in the Republic of Ireland can clearly be seen in the background of one scene.

There's a lot of humour despite the cruelty of Perrier et al and a satisfying ending which I won't spoil. The performances of all the cast make this movie special - Jim Broadbent, in particular, plays a more than convincing Irish da' and it's good to watch and hear Celtic blue-eyes, Cillian Murphy, being his Irish self.
His character, Michael, is the one who is kind of lost at the start and goes on a journey through all manner of situations and emotions to "get a life" - the kind of role Murphy plays so brilliantly.
I guess, crime thriller comedies are perhaps not everybody's cup of tea. Add to that this film's setting in Dublin, with a north side accent to boot which some non-Irish viewers may find difficult to understand at times but, hey, there are always the subtitles , and I can see why some reviewers simply don't fancy this film.
Perhaps they also don't appreciate the film's bizarre brand of humour, but if you, dear reader, appreciate all of the above, then this is the film for you.
To be fair, Perrier's Bounty is probably one of those films which one either loves or hates, but I - for one - thoroughly enjoyed it.
Alongside the recent upsurge in Nordic mainly crime dramas, a 'genre' of Irish crime and gangster films has undoubtedly come to the fore in recent years and this film directed by Ian Fitzgibbon, with a screenplay by Mark O'Rowe who also wrote the script for 's Intermission and 's impressive Boy A , fits firmly although, for me, not altogether successfully into the genre.
Of course, leading the way in the genre is Michael McDonagh's excellent film In Bruges and whilst Perrier's Bounty similarly features the great Brendan Gleeson plus a whole host of other leading British and Irish acting talent it does not even get close to McDonagh's film in terms of its level of inventiveness, or even just pure comedy.
This is a real shame given the talent on show. One certainly can't complain, however, about the pace of Fitzgibbon's film which hardly lets up during its 80 or so minute duration or indeed the number of wisecracking one-liners, which, albeit of variable quality, come thick and fast.
Set over a 24 or so hour period, predominantly in night-time urban Dublin, the film's pretty simplistic plot centres on deadbeat Michael McCrea an impressive Cillian Murphy and his unsuccessful, and increasingly desperate, attempts to repay a debt he owes to local gangster Darren Perrier Gleeson.
What follows is a series of darkly comic set-pieces as Michael is promised a share of the spoils as loan shark The Mull the always reliable Liam Cunningham cuts Michael in on a planned burglary and then blackmail , and then finds himself on the run from Perrier's hitmen, picking up on the way estranged father Jim Jim Broadbent, with a less than convincing Irish accent and suicidal, jilted, ex-girlfriend Brenda Jodie Whittaker.
Whilst all concerned do a perfectly respectable job with what they have, it is the film's concept which is perhaps too formulaic and for me, at least the script is just not funny enough.
In the end, in fact, I found myself most impressed by Murphy's performance which captured elements of both humour and pathos, whereas those of the film's other acknowledged greats Gleeson, Broadbent and Cunningham were too one-dimensional for the most part.
An entertaining film overall, with a predictable ending, but quite funny nevertheless. The only grumble that I have is the use of English actors playing Irish, with the rubbish accents.
Michael accidentally fires off his pistol, causing everyone to take cover. Other gang members, primarily Ivan, begin shooting but Brenda, angry at Clifford, beats him over the head and she and Michael use him as a human shield to escape.
Clifford is killed in the process, and Jim is left behind. Upon exiting Delgado's, the pair find that their stolen car has been clamped, and are forced to flee on foot.
Thankfully, Shamie is able to find them in his car, announcing that he has been looking for Brenda. Michael and Brenda jump into his car.
Jerome and Russ approach, but their dogs growl and Perrier coldly shoots them. Jim walks out of the hall just as the gangs are leaving, but The Mutt notices him and he is taken hostage.
Meanwhile, Shamie has tried to reconcile with Brenda, but she refuses him and her and Michael take his car at gunpoint. They take refuge in a hotel.
They receive a call from a badly beaten Jim who explains to Michael that he is going to "take a nap" after the phone call - implying, true to his vision, that he will die.
Despite this, Michael arms himself and prepares to go to Perrier's hideout. Brenda tries to warn him against it, but the two share a passionate kiss and Michael heads out in Shamie's car.
He is informed that his father is going to die that night, though it will be quick. Michael's death, however, will be slow.
He is pinned down on the table while Ivan attempts to castrate him. Before it can be done, however, The Mutt asks for his money so he can leave.
Perrier pockets the money, just as Hank Francis Magee shoots and kills Dinny. In the confusion, Michael is able to escape, and Perrier kills The Mutt.
Two of Perrier's cronies pursue Michael, who has acquired a golf club. Lining them up against a wall, Michael takes their guns and his money.
Kenny calls his bluff, and is shot in the leg. Michael then pushes his father out of the building and loads him into Shamie's car. At the same time, Perrier reveals that he has an AKu hidden under the snooker table.
With that in hand, he, Ivan, and Hank head outside to confront Michael, who is attempting to flee. Perrier fires into the car as Michael reverses, and Jim is hit in the chest.
They comment on how the Reaper came after all, and Jim calls him a cunt. An enraged Michael charges out of the car at Perrier, firing his gun, wounding Ivan and Hank in the process.
Perrier shoots at Michael, severely wounding him. Before Perrier can finish him, multiple vans pull up, brought to the location by Brenda, containing members of the Savage Canine Vernacular.
They set their dogs upon Perrier, who is mauled to death. Brenda, Jerome, and Russ inform a semi-conscious Michael that they're taking him to Derek Dawson, the best veterinarian in the business.
The next morning, Michael, having had his wounds treated, and Brenda are at the funeral for Jim, who is buried alongside Achilles and Apollo, Russ and Jerome's dogs, at the same place that the trio had buried Orlando earlier.
A heartfelt eulogy is given, and Michael and Brenda profess their love for each other. The pair then head to County Clare, where Michael intends to reconcile with his mother.
The narrator, implied to be the Reaper, ponders as to whether the experience has made Michael a better man, possibly an enlightened man. He is shown waving at his mother before the camera fades out.
Music for the film was created by Belfast musician David Holmes. The website's critics consensus reads: "It has interesting characters and a strong cast, but Perrier's Bounty ultimately fails to do anything original with them.
Gary Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times favoured the film, describing it as "A fast-paced and enjoyable if violent diversion that revels in its quirky characters, committed performances and involving twists.
