Film is incoherent at times and is easily identifiable as a SNL skit transitioned to film. This is best enjoyed as a guilty pleasure and not critiquing it.
It has a lot of strong comedians in the cast, essentially paving the way for their future. I suspect this will have gained some sort of cult gatherers since it's timely flop at the box office.
Funny film that passes the time, but just not solid enough or quirky enough to be called a genuine cult gem.

Coneheads has a few laughs here and there, but for the most part, the result is uneven comedy that has many jokes that simply fall flat.
Coneheads could have been a good comedy, but because of an awful script, the film doesn't cut it. I think it's a shame because there's a good comedic cast that director Steve Barron has at hand here, but they don't seem to go nowhere.
The film is a mess, and a waste of time. I think it's too bad because this film had the potential of being a good, fun comedy.
Not even the good cast of comedians can save this film that is sloppily written. Coneheads is a missed opportunity and even though there are some funny cast members here, they are wasted on-screen and can't save this film.
Though mildly amusing at times, the jokes found in Coneheads fall flat and are unfunny. This had the potential of being a funny comedy; unfortunately it ends up being a mediocre film with barely any laughs.
The cast like I said, is wasted on such poorly written material, it's a great shame. Coneheads could have been a good comedy, but the script had barely any potential for making this film work.

Aug 05, SNL madness but oh what glorious madness this is with an epic cast of comedy greats and character actors The film itself is virtually B-movie in essence and doesn't hide the fact with crazy over the top acting and cheesy looking effects which at the same time do still kinda hold up today.
The whole film is that classic wacky genius you expect with Aykroyd and his unique thinking along with his amazing ability to reel off large segments of dialog without pause or fault.
Other stars have a good time here too, especially Farley who strangely enough is the main love interest in the film and great little cameos from Sandler and Lovitz, nothing that hilarious but its funny.
Its such a silly, basic, childish plot and idea but its been so well directed and lovingly created with that good old fashioned SNL 80's originated comedy that it just can't fail to win.

Instead, we are treated to many instances when the Coneheads try so hard to fit in and be the average American family.
There are many SNL-related cameos and supporting players throughout the movie and they are pretty well integrated i. Also, although I generally hate David Spade, his annoying personality fits in perfectly with the character he plays.

They also consume foods that are inedible to humans, including cleaning fluid, pencil shavings and fiberglass insulation. On Halloween in specifically, the October 29, , SNL episode , a neighbor complains about the Coneheads' choice of trick-or-treat handouts: six-packs and fried eggs.
The Coneheads have a very fast, nasal, monotone speech and humorously strange language patterns, using needlessly technical dialogue.
They refer to food as "consumables", and say "I summon you" to ask to speak to another person. The phrase, "Maintain low tones," is used towards Connie by Beldar in the film and in the original sketch.
This initial sketch is also the source of the little used human first names assumed by Prymaat Joyce and Beldar Fred.
The popular term parental unit also comes from the sketches. When highly upset a Conehead will utter the term, "Mebs! Coneheads rub their cones together as a sign of affection "honing their cones" at which point a bizarre, theremin -like noise is emitted, presumably from the cones themselves.
They also play a game involving tossing "senso-rings" over each other's cones, which is somehow sexual in nature, and is considered sex for the underaged Connie to play.
Dan Aykroyd said he was inspired to create the Coneheads by marijuana consumption [1] and based the characters' appearance on the Moai , the mysterious and ancient stone statues of Easter Island , which have similarly conical heads, and the people of the land of Points from Harry Nilsson 's fable The Point!
Dan Aykroyd also mentioned in an interview that he drew inspiration from the film This Island Earth where the very tall foreheads of the aliens go largely unnoticed by humans.
The conehead costume is highly reminiscent of the white clown costume used in circuses for more than a century.
Frank Zappa wrote a song based on the sketches, titled "Conehead". When he hosted SNL , Zappa also appeared in a Coneheads sketch as a man dating Connie, where he makes note that he prefers French women.
A live-action film, Coneheads , premiered in , starring Aykroyd and Curtin. Michelle Burke took over the role of Connie in the film, with Newman appearing as Connie's aunt on Remulak.
Marvel Comics produced a comic book limited series, with all original stories set after the events of the film.
